Located off of Interstate 35 in McClain County, Purcell is known to many as the “Quarter Horse Capital of the World” and is the home of the McClain County Courthouse. Founded in 1887 during the Oklahoma Land Run, the city was named for E.B. Purcell, director of the Santa Fe Railway. The town’s motto is the “Heart of Oklahoma” and the Historic Downtown showcases many renovated historic buildings. The community proudly supports the Purcell Public School System in ensuring the students are learning today and prepared to lead tomorrow.
